Walton-on-the-Naze trip

On Thursday 23rd June, Year 10 geography students took part in their first field trip to Walton-on-the-Naze to look at the impacts of coastal erosion in preparation for their GCSE exam. Students had to take part in a number of activities such as measuring the seawall and groynes; they had to use a range of equipment to carry out their work.

The first activity they took part in was laying a measuring tape against the sand and having to measure the wavelength. This also encouraged team work as they had to work together gathering measurements and making sure they were accurate in order to complete their worksheet. Later on in the day students were able to see a real WW2 pill box which had fallen onto the beach due to coastal erosion.

This was an amazing experience as it gave students the chance to see the impacts of coastal erosion in person. Overall this was an amazing day and students had a great time visiting and exploring this site.
