‘Fabulous’: MP opens Mulberry Academy Woodside’s New After-School Space

Mulberry Academy Woodside celebrated the opening of its new after-school provision on Friday (May 17) by Catherine West MP.

The launch of the school’s extracurricular space on White Hart Lane, Haringey, was attended by a range of visitors including the Hornsey and Wood Green MP, governors and community organisations.

Mulberry Academy Woodside opened the facility as part of an exciting project to provide extended school hours for its secondary school pupils.

Guests had the chance to learn about the wide range of extracurricular opportunities offered to Woodside students such as the Mulberry STEM Academy – in partnership with Mercedes Benz – through which pupils have had the opportunity to meet Formula 1 star Sir Lewis Hamilton.

Other projects discussed among students, staff and community figures included the school’s Parliament visits, Duke of Edinburgh trips, debate groups, and positive masculinity workshops with author Jeffrey Boakye. Ms West spoke to Woodside pupils about all things politics to the state of the economy, including students’ ideas on how to tackle inflation.

Catherine West, MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, said: “It’s so important that young people have somewhere they feel safe and supported to learn and have fun and I’m delighted to open Woodside’s fabulous new canteen extension that will expand their offer to students outside core school hours.”

Angela Wallace, headteacher of Mulberry Academy Woodside, said: “Our mission is to provide exceptional education and experiences for our young people. This will be crucial in creating a provision for students to stay and study or stay and play after the school day ends. It is so important for our community to have safe spaces outside of formal school hours and for our students to have the chance to extend their learning.”
