Spurs series champions
After winning the regional heat undefeated and without conceding a goal, the Year 10 boys football team were back in action last Friday in the Spurs Series Grand Final and looking to bring home some silverware. The heats proved to be no challenge for the Woodside team, who beat one of the teams 7-0. The boys were dancing around the opposition and slotting goals in the back of the net for fun.
The final was as exciting as you hope any to be. With Enfield Grammar scoring early in the game, Pharrell was refusing to lose when they had come so far. He fired 2 goals in quick succession into the back of the net giving Woodside the lead.
Moments before the final whistle, Enfield snuck a goal past goalie Mahmood who had been suffering an injury following the fixture against Park View, 10 days previously. With penalties on the horizon, the boys dug deep but were unable to avoid the inevitable. Up stepped penalty takers Rayan, Pharrell and Aleks for their moment in the spotlight and in combination with the lightning reactions of Mahmood, the boys secured the win and both the title and silverware was theirs to bring back to school.
With some of these boys already in professional academies and one playing for England U16’s, this team is filled with unrivalled talent. If there is anyone who is a football coach, looking for an outstanding talent pool and can to take the boys to the next level as a team, please contact Ms Pryor on alice.pryor@woodsidehighschool.co.uk Winning
