Year 9s Explore the Holocaust with VR and Survivor Testimony
In April, sixty Year 9 students took part in a powerful workshop with the Holocaust Educational Trust, using cutting-edge technology to deepen their understanding of history.
The session focused on the life of Manfred Goldberg BEM, a Holocaust survivor born in Kassel, Germany, in 1930. Manfred has dedicated years to Holocaust education, and through this programme, students were able to engage with his pre-recorded, interactive testimony—asking him questions about his experiences before, during, and after World War Two.
Using VR headsets, students explored key historical sites and artefacts associated with the Holocaust, seeing firsthand how these locations appear today. The immersive experience brought history to life in a way that books alone cannot.
Students asked thoughtful and insightful questions throughout, demonstrating curiosity and respect for the subject. The session leaders praised their engagement and enthusiasm, making it clear that the workshop was a great success.
A huge well done to all involved for embracing this important learning experience with such maturity and interest.
